I have called Tiny Township home for more than 15 years, and for over a decade I have been actively involved in the issues that matter to our residents. After a 31-year career with GO Transit, followed by senior leadership at BOMA Toronto, I bring extensive experience in governance, contract negotiation, financial management and leading large organizations. Since 2015, I have also been deeply involved in our community through the Lafontaine Area Shoreline Homeowners Association, attending council meetings, reporting on municipal affairs and working with residents, council and community organizations to get things done. I am running for Mayor because I believe Tiny needs greater transparency, fiscal responsibility, meaningful public engagement and a more collaborative approach to solving our challenges. I am not running for a career or a paycheque—I am stepping out of retirement because I believe my experience, independence and knowledge of Tiny can help restore trust and provide practical, community-focused leadership for the 2026 –2030 term.

Since posting my nomination for the upcoming elections, I have been inundated with requests by residents and media about a myriad of issues. I decided that the best way to address this was to develop a website that would provide as much, or as little information as you will need to decide on whether you will support my candidacy for mayor of the Township of Tiny from 2026 to 2030.

In addition, I plan to be setting up meetings with as many homeowners associations as possible to allow essential two-way discussions.

Firstly, it was recently presented to our current council by the Ad Hoc Citizens Committee on Council Compensation that; “elected office is a public trust, not a career. Council members are not employees. They are elected officials occupying roles that are designed to be temporary and part-time, with responsibilities that are notably distinct from those within the public service.”

I do believe this and I am certainly not in it for the money, rather the satisfaction of bringing my skills and experience for the betterment of the community I have come to know and love.

Secondly, I would like to make clear that I am not supporting any of the other council candidates and in my mind, running a slate just undermines the democratic process and results in the kind of council we are currently dealing with. Our council representatives should be free to express their own opinions and have a proven ability to work with those who’s opinions may differ.

I certainly recognize that the current council members all had good intentions when they ran for office in 2022 and the electorate gave them the mandate to lead. As you will see later on this site, what they said were their priorities at election time shifted considerably when they took on their respective roles. Having been following council for over ten years, none of the current councillors (except Mr. Walma) had attended even a single council meeting other than to make a deputation on beach rights. In fact, Mayor Evans admitted to never having attended any of the previous Town Hall meetings. As such, and with none having experience in managing large organizations, they were at a significant disadvantage and fully influenced by staff and their veteran councillor.

Although Tiny is not a business, many practices and principles can still be applied and creative approaches to management need to be explored. And of course, fiscal responsibility is paramount given our tax base is currently 97% residential.

The mayor is just one vote on council but needs to be able to negotiate consensus. I have a proven record in contract negotiations, governance and senior level management. I believe I can lead the new council and provide community focused leadership.

I feel my past career experience, over ten years of observing local council meetings and my community involvement have equipped me to lead our new council in the right direction. This is not a decision I have made lightly being someone that is quite enjoying retirement life.

I believe I have the integrity necessary to provide ethical decision-making and transparency and to maintain a clear vision for the township’s future. My strong communication skills will help me motivate both staff and residents toward common goals.

I have been a resident of Tiny for the last fifteen years, and up until now, I have not witnessed the obvious public unrest and distrust of our current council. I believe that the temperature needs to be dialed down significantly. It appears that if you want to affect change then you need to get elected. I am more than prepared to take up the challenge.
